This booklet constitutes the refereed complaints of the eighth overseas Workshop at the Finite-State-Methods and usual Language Processing, FSMNLP 2009. The workshop was once held on the college of Pretoria, South Africa on July 2009. In overall 21 papers have been submitted and of these papers thirteen have been authorized as standard papers and another 6 as prolonged abstracts.

G. bracket supports under a storage vessel), and these cannot be justified using the very conservative simplisdc criteria that relate to simple load cases. Second, geometric imperfections can dramatically affect the strength of shells when under relatively uniform loading, but the sensifivity to imperfections seems to be much less to stresses that are only locally high. In particular, it appears that the high stresses must extend over a zone of size comparable to the potential buckle before a limit state is approached (Cai et al, 2001).
A factor that makes the consequent difficulty less obvious is that the tradition in shell structures has been to study reference load cases that involve uniaxial stresses (axial compression, extemal pressure, torsion, cylinder global bending). Yamaki (1984) termed these "fundamental loads". When the compressive stress acts in only one direction, the capacity curve can be used in the same manner as for columns: only stocky structures will experience plasticity and only slender structures will exhibit purely elastic behaviour.
However, two difficulties arise: first, it is not easy to formally define in the standard when it is necessary to check for snap-through buckling. Further, since snap-though requires a GNA analysis in place of an LEA, this is not a requirement to be casually placed on the designer/analyst. It would be very useful if new criteria could be developed that would permit a better identification of conditions under which snap-though may become critical. Secondly, most of the literature on imperfection sensitivity relates to bifurcation buckling.
